Custom Computers
"The choices made when designing a system should meet the requirements of the individual using the system"
Computers are a category of tool that perform such a multitude of unique and individual tasks that it can be very difficult for the average person to know what they should be looking for in a new system. While this may be true, the hardware and software choices we make when designing a computer system are critical to maximizing resources and saving time and frustration in the long term. In certain circumstances a person may find themselves with a machine either woefully inadaquate for the tasks the computer needs to perform or with a machine that is much more expensive and powerful system then they will ever take advantage of. The technology needs of users vary greatly from individual to individual and from business to business, and this is why it is important that the choices made when designing a system meet the requirements of the person using the system.
But what is the average person to do when they need a new computer? Most people's choice is simple and straightforward, head on down to the local big-box electronics store and purchase a generic machine from one of the major manufacturers that seems to fit their needs. In many circumstances this works out well, these major manufacturers design their systems to maximize the number of individuals their computers appeal to. But many times this method leads the consumer down the wrong path and that can be a serious, and potentially very expensive problem.
To use a metaphor, designing a computer is much more like tailoring a fine suit than it is like designing a sneaker. For the vast majority of individuals picking a sneaker is easy, just like before, go to the store and pick the one that seems to fit your needs. However, the suit requires much more effort. It must be chosen based upon what it will be used for, such as an interview or , and then it must be tailer made
